About 40 were flown back on charter flights yesterday and last night.
Duane McKay of the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says Ontario officials are dictating when and how many residents can return on each flight.
“This is not a scheduled return to the community, these are opportunities when community leaders say that ‘we have a plane available and we can accommodate them back in the community,’ so we’re really at their disposal.” McKay said.
McKay says they are planning as many as four more flights out of Regina today depending on instructions from the leaders of the Northwestern Ontario First Nation.
Weather conditions are improving with a significant amount of rain in the last day and McKay says the wind is keeping smoke out of the community near the Manitoba border.
