Man Accused of Stabbing a Police Officer Remains in Custody for New Court Date

A man arrested in connection with the stabbing of a police officer on the Waywayseecappo First Nation, has appeared in court again.

22-year-old Matthew Benn was in Brandon yesterday (Mon) on a charge of Attempted Murder, where he was remanded in custody to December 14th.

The Manitoba First Nations Police officer was called to a business in May of last year on a report of a disturbance, and when he attempted to arrest a male, another male stabbed the officer multiple times.

The officer then drew his firearm, and shot the second male.

The 29-year-old police officer was treated in hospital for serious injuries, but was released soon after.
