Sask. NDP Wants Government to be More Transparent With COVID-19 Data

It is time for the Premier and the government to be honest with Saskatchewan people when it comes to COVID-19 data.

That from NDP leader Ryan Meili Tuesday morning.

Meili says each and every person in Saskatchewan deserves to know the situation we are in and that hiding information is not right because it is not helping in the fight to stop the virus that has claimed the lives of 200 people since the pandemic started.

“What number of cases per day or total active cases will trigger further restrictions and what do they need  to drop to for those restrictions to be reduced.” Meili stated as he spoke with reporters at the Saskatchewan Legislature. “What are the next level of restrictions if things get worse, where do we go next? We need to be clear about that.”

He adds the uncertainty that the government is causing is not sending the right message.

“When people don’t know what’s happening, its more frightening.” Meili said. “It also breeds more skepticism and resistance to the necessary measures. It makes us less safe.”

The comments come with the province’s weekly average of new daily cases sitting at 307 as of Monday — the highest it’s been since at least last summer with Saskatchewan having one of the highest rates of active cases per capita in Canada.
