TERRIERS 3, MILLIONAIRES 2 (OT)
The Yorkton Terriers took the first installment of the Highway 10 battle in a comeback fashion with a 3-2 overtime win over the Melville Millionaires on Friday night.
The Mils got off to a quick start with veteran Zach McIntyre giving the home team an early one goal lead with his 1st of the season before Zach Cain finished off a nice passing play from Jonathan Krahn and Noah Wills to make it 2-0 after 1 period.
Yorkton was able to cut the deficit in half in the 2nd, as Maddux Nollski was able to use the opposing defenceman as a screen and make no mistake snapping it past Mils’ goalie Alexis Giroux for his 3rd of the season to make it once again game after 40 minutes.
The score would stay like that until birthday boy Karsten Kruska snapped home the tying goal with just 37 seconds remaining to force overtime.
In the overtime, Yorkton had much of the control and it was finished off when Kruska found a streaking Tyson Janzen back-door and the Saskatoon product had a nice deke to slide it over to help the visitors get the extra point.
Kael DePape made 22 saves on 24 shots to earn his 2nd win of the season, while Alexis Giroux made 34 saves in the Mils’ net in his first start of the season.
The two teams will play once again tonight (Sat) at the Westland Insurance Arena with puck drop at 7:30PM.
