The Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation has filed a lawsuit against the Manitoba government and Louisiana-Pacific.
The lawsuit filed in Court of Queen’s Bench states that the provincial government has breached its duty to consult the first nation, while requesting a moratorium on logging and other forestry development in Porcupine Mountain Provincial Forest and Kettle Hills.
For more than 16 years, the Manitoba government has allowed Louisiana-Pacific to build roads and harvest timber on WSFN territory.
In December of 2021, the provincial government issued further authorizations to Louisiana-Pacific without consulting or notifying the first nation.
