Water Security Agency of Sask. releases latest spring runoff outlook for this year

The Water Security Agency of Saskatchewan has released the latest spring runoff outlook for 2022.

Spokesman Sean Osmar says they’re expecting a below to well below normal snowmelt runoff response over much of southern Saskatchewan, largely due to the extended period of hot, dry weather last year.

Osmar says only areas east of Moose Jaw are forecast to receive near or above normal runoff.

He says the northern part of the province was wet heading into winter, and has received a lot of snow, however, they don’t expect flooding at this point.

Osmar adds that above to well above normal snowmelt runoff yields are expected across central areas of the province, but flooding is not expected at this time.

The Parkland region is expected to have near normal runoff this spring.

Osmar says their latest spring runoff potential map is subject to change. He explains these reports are a snapshot in time – telling us where we’re at now – but knows weather in Saskatchewan can change rapidly.
