The 2022 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League draft took place on Friday, and it included two different age groups getting picked.
The draft included 6 rounds of 2006-born players and 2 rounds of those selected in 2006.
The Yorkton Terriers’ selected 2 forwards and 3 defenceman in the 2006-born draft including the 7th overall pick, D Cutter Knight from the Estevan Bears.
The Swift Current product had 2 goals and 14 points in 43 games with the Bears this past season.
The Terriers also selected D Luc Bourdon (Prince Albert) in 4th round, F Carter Degelman (Saskatoon) in the 5th and a pair of 6th round picks on F Trey Penrod (Saskatoon) and D Turner Knockaert (Manor).
In the 2007 born draft, Yorkton picked Weyburn Wings forward Langston Gold and Saskatoon Generals forward Samuel Wardell.
Meanwhile for the Melville Millionaires also selected 5 players in the 2006-born portion of the draft and with the first pick they selected 24th overall, forward Kole Keen from the Estevan Bears.
Keen, who hails from White City, scored 12 times and added 15 assists for 27 points in 44 games.
The Moneymen also picked forward Jack Briltz (Regina) in the 3rd round, D Riley Craigen (Regina) & D Nate Silvester in the 5th round and Whitewood product & D Ethan Dartige in round 6.
The Mills made a splash in the 2007 player draft making three selections in round 1, picking F Leo Jewitt (Indian Head) 3rd, F Alex Morrison (Saltcoats) 4th and F Wesley Olson (Swift Current) with the 5th overall selection.
Other local selections include Lipton’s Connor Miller selected in 18th overall (2006 draft) by the Humboldt Broncos and F Connor Bear of Whitewood picked by the Weyburn Red Wings 10th overall of the 2007 draft.
Three Yorkton SeCon Mauler signees were also picked in D Rhett Vedress, 1st round, 1st overall (2006 draft) to the Weyburn Red Wings, F Riley Ashe selected 1st round, 10th overall (2006 draft) to the Melfort Mustangs and picked 2nd overall in the 2007-born draft was F Lucas Hvidston.
