Prime Minister Trudeau condemns verbal harassment towards Freeland

The Prime Minister says the verbal harassment and confrontation Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland experienced on Friday in Grand Prairie is not an isolated incident.

Justin Trudeau spoke about the incident during an announcement in Ottawa on Sunday, saying what Freeland faced is being seen with increasing frequency by people in public life, particularly women and minorities.

He says, “As leaders, we need to call this out and take a united stance against it, because no matter who you are, who you love, the colour of your skin, how you pray, where you’re from, your gender – you deserve respect, and you deserve to live in peace without fear of threats or violence.

He called the confrontation cowardly behaviour which threatens our democracy and our values.
