The Salvation Army’s Kettle Campaign in Yorkton is off and running again.
Ministry Leader Roy Bladen states they have a lofty goal for this year.
“125 thousand dollars,” Bladen stated. “The reason why its so high is because the cost of living has increased and our buying power – even buying in bulk – has become a lot lower than it was last year.”
Kettles are set up at the Parkland Mall, Save On Foods, Walmart, the Yorkton Liquor Store and Superstore.
Bladen says they’re in need of volunteers to do 2-hour shifts, and anyone interested can call Kettle coordinator Gwen at 306-744-3000.
Christmas hampers are also being done up, with applications being accepted until December 1st.
“And that includes food hampers and toy hampers. The average cost of a food hamper for two people is probably around 100 dollars; if we put one out for a family, that means toys included and possibly a turkey or a ham, usually goes up to 600 or 700 dollars per hamper. Bladen added.
The Angel Tree Toy Drive is also underway until December 18th.
