Yorkton family physician passed away Monday evening

A long-time family doctor in Yorkton unexpectedly passed away on Monday evening (Mar. 20).

Dr. Peter Groenewald practiced in Yorkton at the Broadway Medical Clinic and Yorkton Regional Health Centre since 2007, and more recently at the Alliance Health Centre in Yorkton, and in Lestock since 1997.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority issued a news release of his passing and expressed their sorrow, saying he was highly-valued and well-respected.

“On behalf of the SHA, I would like to express our sorrow at the passing of our long-time friend and colleague,” stated Dr. Johann Roodt, Physician Executive, Integrated Rural Health. “Dr. Groenewald was a highly valued and well-respected member of the Yorkton health-care team and a beloved family physician to patients in Yorkton and Lestock.  He was an incredibly intelligent and hard-working family physician who dedicated his life to serving the health and well-being of the patients, residents, and families of Yorkton, Lestock, and area. His sudden passing leaves a significant void in the hearts of his colleagues and the communities he served. We extend our thoughts and heartfelt condolences to his family and everyone who was fortunate to know him.”
