A Certificate of Achievement has been awarded to the Yorkton Film Festival by Yorkton City Council.
The award is the highest honour the City can bestow on an individual or event.
Executive Director of YFF Randy Goulden reflected on how much it means to receive recognition from council.
“This is where the Yorkton Film Festival started, right here in 1947, so to receive recognition from City Council who’s done so well working with the Film Festival, it’s remarkable to receive the achievement.”
Goulden says there’s a number of people who made the film festival possible over the years.
“People like former Mayor Allan Bailey and his wife Colleen were absolutely essential in keeping the festival here when they went through some hard times. We have some people like (former) Supreme Court Judge Nancy Morrison who did a great deal of work, and she still lends her name to our festival,” added Goulden.
“This is like a big feather in their cap,” Yorkton Mayor Hippsley described of YFF receiving the award.
This May will be the 76th edition of the Yorkton Film Festival, which is the longest running film festival in North America.
