The three Prairie provinces have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, to advance economic corridors and support the movement of products within Western Canada and to various markets.
Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta are joining forces, with a number of goals, including: improving the efficiency of inter-provincial highways and rail networks, harmonizing regulations to support businesses, industries and shippers, encouraging Ottawa to provide infrastructure funding and national supply chain solutions, and to keep the provincial economies competitive, while growing capital investment.
As part of its commitment, Manitoba announced its Trade and Commerce Grid Initiative, to gradually increase the amount of strategic highway networks able to handle heavy truck loads, by 30 to 35 per cent.
