Drowning Prevention Week Highlighted For Saskatchewan Provincial Parks

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed July 21-27 as Drowning Prevention Week, highlighting water safety in provincial parks.

In 2016, Saskatchewan Provincial Parks, in partnership with the Lifesaving Society, launched the Lifejacket Loaner Station program. This initiative has grown substantially and now operates in 21 provincial parks, offering lifejackets in various sizes from infant to adult for visitors to borrow freely.

Shelby Rushton from the Lifesaving Society emphasizes that not wearing a lifejacket or PFD remains the leading cause of fatal drownings in the province. This week aims to raise awareness and promote safe practices to prevent such tragedies.
