Winnipeg Serial Killer Handed Life Sentence Without Parole for 25 Years

A Winnipeg judge has sentenced a serial killer to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years after he was convicted of murdering four Indigenous women.

During the sentencing of Jeremy Skibicki, the victims’ families and supporters delivered emotional impact statements. Donna Bartlett, the grandmother of Marcedes Myran, one of the victims, spoke to honour the fourth unidentified victim, known as Buffalo Woman, a name given by an Indigenous grassroots community.

Bartlett expressed hope that Buffalo Woman’s identity will soon be discovered.

Meanwhile, Myran’s family is preparing to search a Winnipeg-area landfill where police believe her remains are located.
