Melville Mayor Walter Streelasky will not seek reelection

After a lengthy career serving the City of Melville and its citizens, Mayor Walter Streelasky has announced he will not seek re-election this November.

He has decided it is time to step down, in order to spend more time with his wife and family.

Streelasky, who was first elected to city council in 2000, and became Mayor in 2006, says he will serve out his term.

He thanks the citizens of Melville and city councils past and present, for their trust and support over the years.

Streelasky noted a number of highlights during his time on council and as Mayor, including infrastructure projects such as the lagoon, landfill, water treatment plant and lift station, along with the growth of the hospitality corridor, where 22 new businesses have been established.

He also cited the construction of the Cumberland Villas seniors housing, and the C.N. Community Centre, which he says has served as a great gathering point for the community.
