Hey lovely readers!

Last night, I decided to have a double-feature with two very similar movies from 2004: First Daughter and Chasing Liberty. If I had a nickel for every time a movie released in 2004 was about the US president’s daughter, who is desperate for a taste of freedom and *spoiler alert* unknowingly falls for a secret service agent, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but still weird that it’s happened twice. They’re both hidden treasures that unfortunately flopped at the box office but are definitely worth your time. Very endearing watches!

Both Michael Keaton and Mark Harmon made very convincing presidents. They brought a level of charm and firmness that felt just right for the roles. It’s always a treat to see such talented actors take on the part of a movie president. But let’s talk chemistry. Both couples had it by the boatload! There’s something so heartwarming about watching these women break free from their confinement, only to find love in the most unexpected places.

Confession time! I liked Chasing Liberty a smidge more. Why? The side characters. They felt more fleshed out, giving depth and making the world feel a bit more real. Plus, the locations were absolutely stunning, giving all the wanderlust vibes. But don’t get me wrong, First Daughter had its own unique charm in their scene transitions. They were incredibly clever. The way they flowed into each other was so seamless and satisfying. Whoever worked on those transitions deserves a gold star!
So, which one should you watch? Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either. Both movies are surprisingly delightful despite the way they did in the box office. Whether you’re in the mood for beautiful scenery or clever editing, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Grab some popcorn, snuggle up, and give these underrated gems a chance. You might just find a new favourite! Happy watching!
