Zebra Mussels Discovered in Clear Lake

Parks Canada staff have discovered six juvenile zebra mussels in Clear Lake on September 19 and 20.

The invasive species, confirmed by experts from Parks Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Manitoba’s aquatic invasive species program, poses a threat to local ecosystems.

Parks Canada is exploring eradication options with third-party experts.

Temporary watercraft restrictions remain in place, and Boat Cove is closed to the public.

Zebra mussel infestations cost Manitoba taxpayers an estimated $10 million annually, affecting freshwater infrastructure and the local economy.

Further updates will be provided as available.
