A group lobbying for cattle producers in the province sent a letter to the Saskatchewan Party and the NDP, asking for each political party’s stance on various issues affecting the beef industry.

Grant McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association, says the Livestock Price Insurance Program, investment in the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation project, and the Provincial Marshal Service are a few questions asked in the letter.

“We’re waiting for a response from both of those organizations and we expect to make some of that information very public when we get those responses back,” said McLellan.

He notes the topics mentioned have been brought up in conversations with producers across the province, as well as issues that remain “persistent”. “These are things that we’ve been lobbying for and advocating for some time and so we really do want to get a good perspective and an official position and whether its in the platform or not from both of these parties.”

When asked about the working relationship between the SCA and SaskParty and NDP, McLellan says it’s a good one, noting good representation from both sides whenever they are invited to SCA events, from meetings to pasture tours. “We’re a non-partisan group, we try to represent our producers in a way that best benefits them. Part of that does mean that we are in contact with all political parties that have an opportunity to form government.”

Voters will head to the polls on October 28.
