Birtle woman dead after single-vehicle crash in St. Lazare

Russell RCMP believe icy road conditions may have been a factor in a fatal single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Highway 41 in St. Lazare.

Mounties were called to the scene, on the south edge of town, around 10:30 a.m., where they found a vehicle at the bottom of a steep hill, where it had left the road, and hit a tree.

The lone occupant of the vehicle, a 72-year-old Birtle woman whose name hasn’t been released, was taken to hospital, where she died of her injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
