Field set for Saskatchewan provincial curling championships in Kindersley

The 18 teams that will compete to represent Saskatchewan at The Brier and Tournament of Hearts have been determined.

This weekend, CurlSask held its annual last-chance qualifier bonspiels to determine the three men’s and three women’s teams that will be added to the provincial championships at the end of the month.

At the men’s last chance qualifier in Swift Current, Martensville’s Dylan Derksen, Langenburg’s Charley Thomas, and Swift Current’s Steve Laycock emerged from the 13-team field.

They join Team Knapp from the Highland Curling Club in Regina and Saskatoon Nutana foursomes Team Kleiter, Team Kalthoff, Team Jacobson, Team Ede and Team Moser at the Saskatoon Men’s Tankard January 21-26 in Kindersley.

At the women’s last chance qualifier in Nipawin, Saskatoon Nutana’s Jessica McCartney and Regina Highland’s Joelene Campbell and Brooklyn Stevenson were the top three teams in the 13-team competition.

They now vie for the provincial championship against the prequalified teams: Team Englot from the Regina Highland Curling Club, Team Thevenot and Team Martin from Saskatoon’s Nutana Curling Club, Moose Jaw’s Team Barker, Saskatoon Sutherland’s Team Holland, and Team Selzer who curl out of the Balgonie Curling Club.

The women’s provincial championship will also be held in Kindersley from January 21-26.
