An update on last week’s cyber security breach that affected the Swan Valley, Mountain View and Park West School Divisions.

It impacted a system called “PowerSchool,” which is used by many school divisions throughout Canada and the U.S., and some data was accessed.

The target of the cyber attack, which was reported on January 7 was the “PowerSchool” system itself, and not the individual school divisions.

The three local divisions issued statements Monday saying they have not experienced any operational impacts as a result of the incident, adding that PowerSchool has contained the incident, and their investigation continues.

As well, the Swan Valley School Division a notes that this week, it will be updating passwords in PowerSchool for all users.
