A Hamilton, Ontario man charged following a traffic stop on Highway 1 east of Indian Head, that resulted in a significant seizure of illegal cigarettes, has admitted his guilt.
In November of 2022, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol officers pulled over a semi unit, and a search turned up 18 pallets, each containing 30 boxes of unstamped tobacco.
In all,officers seized about 5.4 million cigarettes and over 13-hundred kilograms of shisha tobacco.
35-year-old Sargon Jahn was committed to stand trial in April in Regina Court of King’s Bench, but during a pretrial appearance there Thursday, he pled guilty to a charge under the Tobacco Tax Act, and was handed penalties totaling just over $949,200.
