Yorkton schools marked Pink Shirt Day with creative events promoting kindness and anti-bullying awareness.
At St. Alphonsus School, students and community members built snowmen and snow angels adorned with pink shirts, turning the winter landscape into a symbol of unity. Inspired by a similar initiative in Ontario, the event was part of the school’s Mental Health Capacity Building Program, which aims to support student well-being. Representatives from the City of Yorkton, Fire Protective Services, and the RCMP also took part.
Meanwhile, Dr. Brass School wrapped up its Be Kind Rhythm Project, an interactive initiative that used rhythm exercises with plastic cups to reinforce kindness. Led by the school’s Performing Arts Academy, students taught the routine to all classes and community partners, including Yorkton Fire Protective Services and City Council. The event culminated in a final recorded performance, set to be shared on the Good Spirit School Division’s website.
Both initiatives highlighted the importance of fostering kindness beyond Pink Shirt Day, engaging students and the broader community in meaningful ways.
