Dungeon Crawler Carl!

I am doing my best to not doom scroll these days. Actually, other than listening to GX94 news, I have stayed away from all other news. I know, you’re probably thinking, “How can you do that? Huge things are going on in the world right now! Knowledge is power!” Well, raising two littles in this world, I’m finding “ignorance is bliss”, and, what I need to be able to survive my days.

So instead of learning about our scary world, I’ve been listening to the Dungeon Crawler Carl audio books.

Disclaimer First: These books are full of violence, crude language, misogyny, and gore.

Why would I be listening to something like this? Because they are Who-Larious! And the relationship between Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut is the cutest thing ever!

“Dungeon Crawler Carl” kicks off with an unexpected and chaotic event where Earth is suddenly transformed into a massive, game-like dungeon. Aliens come, take over the planet, everyone dies, except for people who were outside at the time of the takeover, and they all go into the dungeon. The protagonist, Carl, finds himself thrust into this bizarre and dangerous new world. His unlikely companion? Princess Donut, his ex-girlfriend’s cat, who brings her own quirky charm and surprising talents to the adventure. Together, they must navigate through increasingly challenging levels filled with monsters, traps, and puzzles, all while trying to survive and uncover the mysteries of this strange new reality. It’s a wild ride that blends humor, action, and a touch of heart, making for an unforgettable journey.

The books are written by Matt Dinniman, and the audio books are narrated by Jeff Hays. I highly recommend the audio books. Hays is a master at voices! Listening to it, you would think multiple people are narrating the story, but it’s just one incredibly talented actor. Surprisingly, the story gets more and more in depth with an intricate plot line as you go along. You become invested in the characters, and will probably find yourself texting your people lines that Princess Donut says to Carl. At least that’s what my sisters and I have been doing the past few month.

But remember, it’s violent, gory, they swear every second word, and the misogyny in the first couple of books is pretty rampant. I’m just warning you, so I don’t get any calls or texts from shocked GX listeners. But these books are perfect to listen to and take you away from the reality that we are living in right now. If you want that. -Tonya Cherry-
