Yorkton Mayor Aaron Kienle found the recent provincial budget unremarkable, with little clarity on health and education funding.
A new regional hospital for Yorkton was not included. While revenue sharing with municipalities continues, the lack of funding for SAMA could shift costs to local governments.
New bylaw courts, including one in Fort Qu’Appelle, should ease provincial court congestion. However, there was no new funding for mental health and addictions services.
Kienle also raised concerns about the growing provincial deficit and the lack of a plan to address tariff-related economic uncertainty.
He plans to review the details with the city’s finance director.
