MILLIONAIRES 1, TERRIERS 4
Evan Auld scored the game winner 5:28 into the second period to lead the Yorkton Terriers a 4-1 victory over the Melville Millionaires at the Westland Arena.
David Coyle, Tate Schofer and SJHL’s Top Forward Jaron Desnoyers also scored for the Terriers, while Ethan Farrow made 18 saves on 19 shots in the win.
Simon Parini replied with the lone goal for Moneymen who got 30 saves from Ben Laurette in the loss.
The two teams meet for Game 2 on Sunday in Yorkton.
KLIPPERS 2, MUSTANGS 5
The defending champion Melfort Mustangs kicked off their postseason with a convincing 5-2 win over the Kindersley Klippers.
Regular season scoring champion Reilly Kotai chipped in with two goals, one assist to lead the way for the Mustangs who got singles Tristan Ziola, Ashton Hutchinson and Nic Andrusiak.
Cam Perlinger and Mason Bueckert replied for the Klippers.
Game 2 in Melfort on Saturday.
NORTH STARS 3, RED WINGS 4
The Weyburn Red Wings used a four goal second period and then hung on for a 4-3 opening series win over the Battlefords North Stars.
Jaxson Ruthven led the way for the Red Wings with one goal, one assist while Max Chakrabarti, Liam Fitzgerald and Blake Betson also scored.
Nikita Ivashchenko, Jordan Grill and former Wing Elijah Anderson provided the offence for the North Stars who’ll be in Weyburn again for Game 2 on Saturday.
BRONCOS 0, BOMBERS 5
Leighton Carruthers and Rhett Ewen each scored twice while SJHL MVP Matthew Kieper earned a 24 save shutout in the Flin Flon Bombers’ Game 1 triumph over the Humboldt Broncos at the Whitney Forum.
Ryder Ringor also one goal, two assists for the Bombers who outshot the Broncos 49-24.
The Bombers look to go up 2-0 when they host Game 2 on Saturday.
