A man is in custody following an armed robbery on Highway 5 near Meacham, Saskatchewan, on April 1.
At around 11:45 a.m., Humboldt RCMP responded to a report of a robbery where a suspect assaulted a man in his truck, stole the vehicle, and left behind another vehicle previously reported stolen in Saskatoon. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Shortly after, police received a report of another robbery near the Highway 16 and Highway 2 junction. The suspect fled south on Highway 2 but was later spotted by officers. When police attempted a traffic stop, the suspect fled at high speed, reversed toward police vehicles, and swerved to avoid a tire deflation device before eventually stopping.
The suspect resisted arrest, prompting officers to use a conducted energy weapon before taking him into custody.
30-year-old Brandon Burns from Keeseekoose First Nation, faces multiple charges, including robbery with a weapon, assault with a weapon, resisting arrest, and dangerous driving. He appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court yesterday.
Multiple RCMP detachments and the Regina Police Service assisted in the investigation.
