Some national parks will be partially re-opening as early as June 1st.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canadians will still need to practice social distancing measures and make other adjustments when need be.
“Getting fresh air is important but we all have to be responsible about it, we have to be prepared to make adjustments as needed.” Trudeau said.
Camping in parks won’t be allowed until at least until June 21, when the federal government will determine whether it should be allowed.
Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson says some trails, day use areas and green spaces will be available where physical distancing is possible, and facilities such as washrooms and comfort rooms will be limited.
Recreational boating will also be available at national parks, historic sites, waterways and national marine conservation areas.
Wilkinson says these measures are being done with the hope to expand services in a thoughtful and prudent manner later on.
“One that is consistent with putting priority on the safety of Canadians, and of course on our Parks Canada staff,” Wilkinson said. “We must enjoy these places safely and follow the advice and guidance of public health experts.”
