— Eight new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Saskatchewan Friday, bringing the provincial total to 590. All eight new cases are in the Far North, including five in La Loche, and three in Beauval. Ten more people have recovered, bringing that total to 408, leaving 176 active cases of the virus in the province. To date, nine people are in hospitals across Saskatchewan, including three in intensive care.
— Manitoba reported no new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, leaving the provincial total of lab confirmed and probable cases at 289. Three people are in hospital including one in intensive care, but 254 individuals have recovered, and the number of deaths remains at seven, leaving 28 active cases of the virus.
— Manitoba has extended its state of emergency for another 30 days, effective 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 17th, allowing the government to take rapid measures, to limit the spread of COVID-19, if needed.
— As of Saturday morning, there are 74,613 confirmed or presumptive cases of COVID-19 across Canada, with 5,562 deaths. There have been 36,907 cases resolved.
— The federal government is extending the Emergency Wage Subsidy to the end of August. The wage subsidy, that was to expire in the first week of June, helps cover 75 per cent of wages for employers facing financial hardship, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
— An update on the number of COVID-19 related calls by the Saskatchewan RCMP. From last Friday to this past Thursday, officers responded to 103 calls of service, and nine charges were issued.
— The Prime Minister was asked Friday when he would consider parliament expanding beyond one emergency sitting a week, to discuss matters of government unrelated to COVID-19. Justin Trudeau said he looks forward to dealing with a broad range of subjects, “when the time comes,” as the focus right now is on supporting Canadians during the pandemic.
