Today (Mon), a Yorkton family was given the keys to the latest home from Habitat for Humanity.
Tanya Fleury and her two children are now owners of a raised bungalow with four bedrooms and a basement that will be developed with an additional bedroom to accommodate family growth.
Fleury is excited for the day that she and her family can move in, especially after spending some of her own time working on the home.
“I started when they first got the boards up, the cement, and the floor,” she explained. “The last time I was here was actually on Friday I did painting, so as it progressed I’ve been here.”
“I’m happy that the boys finally each get to have their own room,” she added. “I have a teenager and a young man that as much as they love each other, they still need their space.”
This is Yorkton Habitat for Humanity’s 9th home built.
A news release from the province notes the project was funded through a $65,000 partnership between the federal and provincial governments through the Canada-Saskatchewan bilateral agreement under the National Housing Strategy. The release also says the home was built through a partnership between Whitespruce Provincial Training Centre and Habitat.

Through our combined efforts with Habitat Saskatchewan, a single mom and her family now have a place to call their very own that will contribute to their economic and social well-being for many years to come. This is the National Housing Strategy at work.”
“Through the generosity, commitment and hard work of Habitat Saskatchewan and local businesses and donors, a Yorkton family now has a beautiful new home to serve as the foundation to create memories, reach their goals and build an even brighter future in their community,” Yorkton MLA Greg Ottenbreit said. “We appreciate their support as our government works to make affordable housing more accessible and to support families in housing need.”

This is a true example of commitment to better our community.
