Several events are planned by the Yorkton Royal Canadian Legion as part of Veterans Week.

Veterans Week kicked off with the raising of the Poppy Flag at the Cenotaph in Yorkton, today (Fri).

President of the Yorkton Royal Canadian Legion Ken Gordon notes as part of Veterans Week, Legion members will be visiting nursing homes in the City.

Tomorrow (Sat), they will visit Aspen Bluffs Villa followed by the Bentley and Yorkton Crossing Retirement Home on Monday (Nov. 8) and the Yorkton and District Nursing Home on Tuesday (Nov. 9).

A Candle-light ceremony is being held at the Cenotaph on Wednesday at 4pm, while the Remembrance Day ceremony will be at the Flexi-Hall on Thursday, starting at 11am.

Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test will be required, so Gordon advises everyone come early to ensure a speedy process.

Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Russ Mirasty will be in attendance for the service.

Gordon says poppies are available once again at various businesses throughout the City, including Save on Foods, Walmart, and the Co-Op.
