A Sask. Tire Company Fined More Than $220 Thousand

Fees and fines totaling $225 thousand have been assessed to a tire company with retail outlets in Foam Lake and Kelvington for not participating in an approved tire recycling program, or remitting fees. The owners of Silk Tire Inc. pleaded guilty in Yorkton court in August. It all stems from a Ministry of Environment investigation that revealed Silk Tire was operating as a tire retailer, but had not registered in the approved scrap tire program, and was not remitting tire recycling fees collected at the point of sale.
