In the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, the Yorkton Public Library and Yorkton Tribal Council (YTC) have formed a partnership.

The fruit of that partnership is a dedicated space at the library called the “Read Indigenous Space”, featuring new books and resources, a new computer, and distinct art and furniture to fill the space. YTC donated 75-hundred dollars towards the items.

Both organizations state the project aims to “honor Indigenous Culture and continue the sharing, learning, and education for all community members.”

“We value the relationship that we have with Indigenous partners and that it is a priority to put the effort into reconciliation as a community, and a library is the perfect place in a community to house that and to make that (a) meeting point for the sharing and the learning.” said Branch Manager of the Yorkton Public Library Amber Harvey at the unveiling today (Thurs).

The opening of the “Read Indigenous Space” comes a day before National Truth and Reconciliation Day, as well as Orange Shirt Day, tomorrow (Fri).
