City of Melville pass 2024 Operating & Capital budgets

Melville City Council has passed the 2024 Operating and Capital budgets during a Special council meeting last week.

Residents of Melville will see a 4.8 percent increase in taxes & 2.4 percent increase in utilities in 2024.

The utility rates see a 2.4 percent increase which averages to $4.09/month for residents based pm an average consumption of 10.74 cubic meters.

The new rates will officially come into effect on Jan. 1st, 2024.

City Manager Jolene Tuchsherer said that many Sask. municipalities are facing increased inflation rates and increased costs associated with operating a municipality when setting their 2024 budgets.

Also as part of the budget Council approved 8 projects to be completed using funds from the Canada Community Building fund formerly the “Gas Tax included first the paving of Queen street between ” Halifax & 7th avenue, Columbia St. from 8th avenue to Prince Rupert St. and Dielschneider Road between 7th & 9th avenues

Other projects include an installation of a parking lot and replacement of shale at Al Walls Field & Jaycee Ball field
