I almost bought a pair of salt and pepper shakers that looked like outhouses.

You know those freezing cold nights when you have to make a trip to the outhouse? Yeah, I’m really starting to wish I didn’t have one on those nights. Let me explain why.

First of all, let’s address the obvious – the temperature. When it’s already below zero outside, the last thing you want is to expose yourself to the freezing cold air while trying to answer nature’s call. It’s a shock to the system, and you can practically feel your body temperature dropping with each step towards that icy outhouse. I find myself dreading the moment I have to leave the comfort of my warm bed, leaving behind cozy blankets and a toasty room.

Then there’s the issue of the outhouse itself. Let’s be honest, it’s not the most pleasant place to be, especially when it’s so cold. The wooden structure does little to insulate against the chill, and you can feel the cold seeping through the cracks. Sitting on that icy seat is an experience I wouldn’t wish upon my worst enemy. And let’s not even mention the shock of touching the freezing cold handle when you’re done.

But it’s not just the physical discomfort that bothers me. It’s also the inconvenience. Imagine having to bundle up in multiple layers of clothing just to make a short trip to the outhouse. It’s like preparing for an Arctic expedition every time nature calls. And don’t even get me started on those middle-of-the-night emergencies. Waking up from a deep sleep, stumbling in the dark, and struggling to put on enough clothes to protect yourself from the cold is not my idea of a good time.

This is why you shouldn’t try to to live in a regional park that only has seasonal services, even though 24/7 access to the horseshoe pits is a major perk.
