The City of Melville has applied to use funds from the Municipal Gas Tax Fund Agreement.
The Gas Tax Fund gives municipalities money to use for projects 1 to 4 years into the future, but an application needs to be submitted in order to access the money. The funds available need to be spent by December 31, 2023.
Just over a million dollars is available to Melville and if the application is approved by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Government Relations it will be used for the following projects:
–Repaving of 2nd Avenue between King Street and Brunswick Street.
–Repaving of Prince Edward Street between 1st Avenue and 5th Avenue.
–Repaving of Prince William Drive between Queen Street and Columbia Street.
–Water line replacement on 2nd Avenue between King Street and Brunswick Street.
–Wastewater line replacement on 2nd Avenue between King Street and Brunswick Street.
–Sewer relining of 1st Avenue between Queen Street and Main Street.
–Sewer relining of Montreal Street between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue.
–Sewer relining of 3rd Avenue between Prince Rupert Street and Columbia Street.
–Sewer relining of 6th Avenue between Queen Street and Main Street.
–Sewer relining of Centennial Crescent .
–Sewer relining of Prince Edward Street between 1st Avenue and 3rd Avenue.
–Sewer relining of 6th Avenue between Saskatchewan Street and Quebec Street.
Melville’s Finance Director Lynsey Swanson says the Gas Tax Fund is extremely beneficial.
“There’s a lot of large projects the City needs to take on and just because of the small populous that we do have, doing some of these projects is really hard to actually complete through just taxation alone or through rates alone.” Swanson said.
These projects, Swanson noted, would be done within the next two years.
