Investigation underway into fatal officer-involved shooting on Sandy Bay F.N.

Manitoba RCMP Major Crimes Unit and the province’s Independent Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting on the Sandy Bay First Nation.

At about 5 p.m. Saturday, RCMP were called to assist the Manitoba First Nation Police Service, regarding a weapons complaint at a residence on the reserve.

By the time RCMP arrived, the man, armed with several weapons, had fled the scene, and was tracked to an open outdoor area.

The encouter there led to the suspect being shot and injured by an RCMP officer.

Despite life-saving measures being taken, the 27-year-old man died at the scene.
