Cornerstone Credit Union has donated $50,000 to support Suncrest College’s new Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. CEO Doug Jones emphasized the donation as a crucial investment for the local economy and future, highlighting its impact on healthcare and education in east central Saskatchewan.
Jones noted that the program addresses the shortage of ultrasound technicians, providing educational opportunities and improving rural healthcare. He celebrated the fact that this program, the first of its kind in Saskatchewan, will be offered in Yorkton.
Alison Dubreuil, President and CEO of Suncrest College, praised the community partnerships that made the program possible. Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation, acknowledged Cornerstone’s consistent support for local projects, emphasizing the long-term benefits of the new program for local healthcare and education.
Previously, students had to leave the province for sonography training, often not returning to Saskatchewan. The new program aims to make recruitment for ultrasound technicians easier within the province.
