The thrilling sport of chuckwagon racing captures the heart and soul like few other spectacles. Imagine the dust cloud billowing in the air as teams of horse-drawn wagons thunder down the track, maneuvering around barrels with razor-sharp precision. The excitement is palpable, reverberating through the stands as fans cheer on their favorite drivers, each hoping for that electrifying moment when a wagon crosses the finish line first. Watching chuckwagon races is a sensory overload in the best possible way. The rhythmic pounding of hooves, the creaking of wooden wheels, and the shouts of drivers urging their steeds forward create a symphony of raw, unbridled energy. As horses gallop at phenomenal speeds, inches from one another, the intense competition keeps spectators on the edge of their seats. The rush of adrenaline is contagious, and you can’t help but get swept up in the fervor and jubilation.

Kelvin Hawreluik, our GX94 Chuckwagon Driver has been racing the GX94 Chuckwagon for 33 years and it is so exciting to be a small part of this experience. He just got a new wagon this year and some pretty great merch. Check out those sunglasses! Make sure you are on the lookout for the GX94 Chuckwagon all summer long, because he has T-shirts he’s throwing out and now, snazzy new sunnies as the kids are calling them.

It was so great getting to see the Hawreluik family when they were at the Yorkton Exhibition Summer Fair this past week. Kelvin always invites me to ride in the parade at the beginning of the night, and this year I got to help hand out candy with the horse that was giving out free hugs.

You know, as thrilling as it is to watch, the experience of racing a chuckwagon must be nothing short of extraordinary. Imagine the surge of adrenaline as you whip the reins, guiding your team around sharp turns and through narrow openings. The connection with your horses, built on trust and mutual respect, is the bedrock of a successful run. These animals are not just partners; they are athletes with boundless energy and spirit, making every race an emotional rollercoaster. The sense of camaraderie among chuckwagon racers is unparalleled. Behind the competitiveness lies a community bound by tradition, respect, and a shared love for this exhilarating sport. Racers support each other, sharing tips and stories, fueling the collective passion that keeps this unique sport alive and thriving.

Kelvin is racing a new team of horses this year, and wow, did they ever shine in Yorkton! He took home first place. Be on the lookout for the GX94 Chuckwagon possibly in Preeceville, Melfort, and most definitely at the Northwest Roundup in Swan River this month! -Tonya Cherry-
