Saskatchewan Hospital Foundations Unite to Fund New Sonography Program

Six hospital foundations across Saskatchewan have teamed up to fund a new Diagnostic Sonography Program at Suncrest College in Yorkton, launching in September 2024.

The Foundations consist of The Health Foundation in Yorkton, Hospitals of Regina Foundation, St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation in Saskatoon, Boreal Healthcare Foundation in Prince Albert, Lloydminster Region Health Foundation and St. Anthony’s Hospital Foundation in Esterhazy.

The program, aimed at addressing the 20-year demand for ultrasound technicians, will cost $500,000 for equipment, with the foundations covering the majority of the expenses.

Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation of East Central Saskatchewan, stated, “Through this training partnership with Suncrest College and our fellow foundations, we hope to address sonography to revitalize our local health care services.”

This marks the first collaboration of its kind, and the initiative will provide local training opportunities, boosting healthcare across the province by producing more skilled sonographers.
