Week 5 of GX94 Supper in the Field was in Ituna!

We were in Ituna last night for week 5 of GX94 Supper in the Field. Jared Martin was our lucky winner. Jared’s mom Shaun has called in every year for Supper in the Field since the very beginning. She told me that she always calls Danny Ismond in the morning. The conversation goes like this, “I’d like to enter in for Supper in the Field.” Danny responds with, “Are we entering in Jim or Jared?” After so many years, we can’t help but recognize our listeners’ voices.

Plus Jared Martin and Danny, (didn’t go to school together), but they did party in their youth together. Unfortunately Jared wouldn’t tell me any of those stories, but from the look on his face, I think the two of them got into trouble, lots! Just Jokes!

Jared farms just outside of Ituna with his mom and his dad. His sister comes out every season and is the best baler around! They had all of their friends and family out for the evening. The rain had just started at 1pm so they were able to relax for Supper in the Field and didn’t have to get back out super quick.

Our feature sponsor for Week 5 was Farm Credit Canada. And man did Kathy Pearson out do herself! She made a delicious cucumber salad, homemade pickles (which deserve a whole separate blog of their own) and the most unreal Apple Crisp ever!

Big thank you to all of our sponsors of GX94 Supper in the Field. Farm Credit Canada, FFUN Motorsports, Future Ford in Melville, Gowan Canada, Jump.ca, LDC, Legacy Co-op, Maple AG & Outdoors, Milligan Bio, SaskMilk, Smith Steel, Yorkton Auction Centre, WINMAR.  Food: Tapps Sports Lounge and Grill in Yorkton. Beer: Great Western Brewery – Original 16!

And a big thank you to Jared for being such a great winner. I loved the stories he had to tell. Like the story where his Dad, Jim will not believe any other weather forecast except the one on GX94, regardless of what Jared finds.

And, they recently bought a new combine. His dad couldn’t get 940 AM in it. The combine was made in Europe, so Jared had to do much tinkering to get the radio to pick up American signals, let alone GX94. But he did it, and now his dad is happy. Jim, you are THE BEST!

Or, the story he told us first thing. On the farm that Jared owns now, the previous owners won our GX94 Backyard Concert in 2011 with Gord Bamford! I found the video from way back! And Jared was at the party with them! It’s a small world! Can you pick him out in the video?

It was a great night in Ituna! Here’s Sask Ag Today, and Jared’s interview with Doug Falconer will be towards the end fo the show. Have a listen. Make sure to come back tomorrow, for videos from night! -Tonya Cherry-
