Oct. 7th Melville City Council Highlights

Melville City council approved a new Memorial Tree and Bench program. 

The program allows the public to pay tribute to a loved one by donating and dedicating a tree or trees or a bench to be planted/installed in the City of Melville, the Melville Cemetery or the Melville Regional Park.

Benches purchased through this program will be at a cost of $4,000 per bench while trees purchased through this program will be at a cost of $200 per tree or three (3) trees for $500.

The first two trees of this program be planted in memory of Cory Bender and Councillor Todd Brooks.

The City of Melville continues to prepare for the 2024 Municipal Election.

The election is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13, 2024, and they are reminding residents interested in running for Mayor or City Council that the deadline to get your nomination papers in is set for tomorrow (Wednesday).

The final day for all candidates to submit paperwork to confirm their intentions for a seat at City Hall is October 9th, and prospective candidates have until 4:00 p.m tomorrow (Wed) to return their Nominations Package to the City Clerk’s office to be added to the ballot.

A nomination form can be found at Melville City Hall or online at www.melville.ca.

 As of Monday (October 7th), there are currently four Mayoral candidates and four Councillor candidates who have submitted their papers.

Nominations are now being accepted for the City of Melville Volunteer recognition awards 

The purpose of the awards is to recognize the volunteer contributions of people active in the developing, administering or providing programs and activities in the city. 

The award categories include: Sport, Culture, Recreation, Youth, Senior and Community involvement. 

If you know a worthy recipient, please nominate them by submitting an application by November 22nd and application forms are available at City Hall, the CN Community Centre Administration office or under the Recreation tab, online at www.melville.ca
