YORKTON – This month marks the national Disabilty Employment Awareness Month and SaskAbilities is taking part in an initiative to help spread awareness.

Light It Up for DEAM is a national movement where organizations, business and government buildings are lighting up purple or blue for one night of the year to recognize and support Inclusive Employment,” according to a press release from SaskAbilities.

“Buildings, businesses, municipal signs, landmarks and bridges across the country will be specially lit purple and blue for one night,” added the release.

SaskAbilities is inviting Yorkton businesses and organizations to take part in the event by showing off their coloured lights in the interior or exterior of their buildings.

“DEAM provides us an opportunity to come together as a community to create awareness and take action around removing barriers for individuals experiencing disability obtain meaningful work,” told Brittany Garbutt, Employment Services Senior Supervisor, in an email with SaskToday.ca

Those who take part can send photos of their lit up creations to [email protected] for a chance to be featured on their social media pages.
