City of Melville passes 2025 Operating & Capital budgets

Melville City Council passed the 2025 Operating and Capital budgets during their council meeting on Monday night.

Residents of Melville will see a 3.875 percent increase in taxes & 3.89 percent increase in utilities in 2025.

The utility rates see a just below four percent increase which equates to an average of $6.90 per monthly bill for residents based on an average consumption of 10.87 cubic metres. 

The new rates will officially come into effect on Jan. 1st, 2025.

City Manager Jolene Tuchsherer says there’s a few capital projects to be completed in 2025 including the completion of the lagoon and landfill projects and upgrades at the CN Community Centre. 

She also adds that this year’s budget continues to focus on rebuilding the City reserve accounts to bring them in line with the minimum policy requirements, as we as it focuses on initiatives to make the community more appealing for everyone.
