A group home in Preeceville will not be closing after all.
Mackenzie Society Ventures, the company operating Group Home Number Three – a home for people with disabilities with staff providing 24-hour care – sent a letter to CUPE yesterday (Wed) of the decision.
“We, the board of directors for Mackenzie Society Ventures Inc. want to confirm that we have no intention of closing Group Home 3, in Preeceville, now or in the future.” the letter read.
It also goes on to say that the company plans to “work with the staff and management to keep the home fully operational” and addressing CUPE’s concerns which included “bargaining difficulties, outstanding grievances, and communication challenges.” The company also rescinded all layoff notices and staff there will keep their jobs.
Social Services Minister Gene Makowsky confirmed ministry staff was able to meet with the company’s Board of Directors and work out communication issues and staffing issues.
CUPE raised awareness of the impending closure on Monday (Mar. 6), and according to the union, the reason for the closure was the lack of a supervisor the last 2 years.
