Saskatchewan Ranks Second in Building Permit Growth

New data from Statistics Canada reveals a 26.2% year-over-year surge in building permit values across Saskatchewan between November 2023 and November 2024, ranking the province second in the nation for percentage growth.

November alone recorded a 15.3% month-over-month increase compared to October, maintaining the province’s position as a leader in growth.

Yorkton played a pivotal role in this boom, with building permits exceeding $180 million from November 2023 to October 2024.

This represents an eleven-fold increase over the previous year and more than double the city’s previous 15-year record.

Mayor Aaron Kienle credited the remarkable growth to significant industrial investments, complemented by $13 million in commercial construction. However, residential development remained limited, with only six new dwelling units accounting for $1.6 million. Kienle also emphasized the city’s incentives for commercial and residential projects as key drivers of investment.
