Hey friends! Lately, I’ve been on a mission to catch up on movies that my TikTok For You page insists are absolute must-watches. This week, I decided to give Ice Princess a watch. It’s a film that seems to be a childhood favourite for so many.

With the recent, sad news about Michelle Trachtenberg’s passing, a star we loved from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gossip Girl, and of course, 17 Again, it felt like the perfect time to appreciate her talent in this heartwarming flick.

Ice Princess follows Casey, played by Trachtenberg, a high school junior with a knack for physics. She’s on a fast track to Harvard when a scholarship project leads her to mix physics with figure skating. Surprise, surprise, she finds she’s got a passion and some skills for the ice!

As someone who took figure skating lessons and was obsessed with skating as a kid, I can’t believe I hadn’t seen this sooner. It blends the themes of ambition, discovery, and the balancing act between dreams and reality. Plus, it features some familiar faces like Joan Cusack, Kim Cattrall, Hayden Panettiere, and US skating legends Michelle Kwan and Brian Boitano!

Even if I’m not exactly the target audience anymore, Ice Princess was still such a delightful watch. If you have a young skater in your life or just want to enjoy some early 2000s nostalgia, definitely give it a go. It’s a lovely way to celebrate Michelle Trachtenberg’s legacy and remember the joy she brought to our screens.
