$80-thousand fine for a Sask. Company following a workplace fatality in 2020

A Saskatchewan employer pleaded guilty to one charge under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, following a death in the workplace.

Jimlee Farms Ltd. entered the plea in Fort Qu’Appelle Provincial Court February 17; the charge was contravening clause 137(1)(a) of the regulations (being an employer, fail to provide an effective safeguard where a worker may contact a dangerous moving part of a machine, resulting in the death of a worker).

The company was handed a fine over $57-thousand plus a surcharge over $22-thousand.

The charge stemmed from an incident on November 19, 2020, at a worksite near Summerberry, when a worker was found dead in a power take off shaft.
