The Manitoba government has announced that effective July 1st, they will implement a flat 25-dollar-per-tonne Green Levy, while reducing the Provincial Sales Tax to six per cent.
The government says that with the drop in the PST, the average Manitoba household will save 359 dollars in 2022.
They also note that 100 per cent of the Green Levy will be returned to Manitobans, saving the average household two-hundred dollars in 2022.
In a release, Premier Brian Pallister says that when compared to the federal carbon tax, the Manitoba plan will save families and businesses in the province over a billion dollars, over the next five years.
