Numerous Local Areas of Manitoba Sharing Part of $50-Million for Water and Waste-Water Services Projects

Manitoba is investing nearly 50-million dollars for essential water and waste-water services projects.

Municipal Relations Minister Derek Johnson says it’s part of the Manitoba Restart Program.

“The Manitoba Restart Program is designed to boost the economy following the impacts of COVID-19,” Johnson said. “Our government has committed to investing in significant capital works that support the ongoing supply of clean water and wastewater treatment in our municipalities.”

The Town of Swan River is getting 175-thousand dollars for water treatment plant upgrades, while the R-M of Mountain will receive 75-thousand dollars for ultraviolet disinfection upgrades.

The City of Dauphin is getting one-million dollars for ultraviolet disinfection upgrades, while the R-M of Grandview will receive 950-thousand dollars for water main renewals.

Conservation and Climate Minister Sarah Guillemard says four provincial parks will receive funding, including a local one.

“Ultraviolent, or UV treatment, is being added to the Water Treatment Plant at Asessippi Provincial Park to ensure the Plant meets or exceeds all current standards,” she said. “This smaller, but no less critical, project has been allocated 100-thousand dollars and is in the design phase.”

Other Manitoba provincial parks getting money, include Grand Beach, Paint Lake, and Whiteshell.

More than 40 projects, ranging from sewage treatment lagoons and lift stations, to water distribution and collection systems, have been approved under the Manitoba Restart Program.
